This week has seen me introduce a mate to the joys of the first Handsome Boy Modeling School album. It was a fixture of my stoner peak and still stands up well today.

My mate is Monty's age and is as curmudgeonly and protective of Detroit techno and 303 acid as Boyce is about garage punk and old skool hip hop.

When did you last introduce a curmudgeon to something simultaneously old and new?

There were one or two decent post-rock albums released
But none of the bands ever really had more than one good album in them.
As a genre I think it jumped the shark about nine or ten years ago, probably around the time of the Explosions in the Sky album.

We hired a new guy this week, and he's big in to GIS modern metal, he introduced me last night to sub genres of metal I've never heard of, but to my ears it was all shitty metalcore.
We did a line clean last night, so free booze all round, got home at 4am, feel surprisingly good, probably means I'm still drunk.
