This is a question Advice from Old People

Sometimes, just sometimes, old people say something worth listening to. Ok, so it's like picking the needle out of a whole haystack of mis-remembered war stories, but those gems should be celebrated.

Tell us something worthwhile an old-type person has told you.

Note, we're leaving the definition of old up to you, you smooth-skinned youngsters.

God Squad
One on the serious side now. From my grandmother, who was a devout Protestant for most of her life, and converted to Catholicism a few years before she died.

One of the most wonderful things I've ever heard.

"There's many a good Christian who doesn't go to church, and many more who don't even believe in God. What you do and how you do it is so much more important than what you believe and what you preach."

I'm an atheist, but I agree with the second sentence there one hundred percent. Wonderful woman, knew I was gay and an atheist, and didn't give a damn :)

She sounds very open-minded
and you is lucky to have had her for a gran you god-fearing shit stabber oh only joking sorry, couldn't resist...

Seriously, after a certain age most people realize that they should just do something that makes them happy and let others enjoy themselves too. May as well enjoy ourselves while it lasts.

In a similar vein
my grandad used to say,

"There's more to being a Christian than going to Church on Sunday and singing about it."

He was never in Church except for hatches matches and despatches, but never did anyone a bad turn in his life. My gran, who was hardly ever out of the place, never did anyone a good turn if she could help it. Who was the better Christian? Him in my opinion.

@Jeccy
God-fearing?

My dear man, you are clearly mistaken. God is Calamarain-fearing! :P

For a moment there
I thought that said "God is calamari-fearing."

So am I, actually. Squids are weird little things.

Don't know where this one is from...
Going to church doesn't make you religious, in the same way that going to school doesn't make you educated.

Something like that anyway.

.
If you agree with that sounds more like youre Agnostic like myself or Albert Einstien. The existence of any god, the origin, nature and meaning of the universe is infinitely unknowable. But its important to keep a good sense of morality.

That is wonderful
I call myself Chrstian and that is exactly my opinion. No, I hardly ever go to church but it's how I live my life that matters, and if someone is a good person but doesn't believe in God then what does it matter?

*clicks*
