Anyway. I have occasionally used personals and it's been fine, really. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking to meet new people with just two caveats.

Number 1. Boys and girls, read purplegods top tip on things to do before entering dating sites. This is important. That person that hides, in the middle of their profile on *insert well respected broadsheet newspaper/website of your choice here*, the phrase, 'Ahaha, and yes, I am a bit mad, me!' probably is, no matter how lovely their photo is.

Number 2. Know that you MUST be prepared for the possibility that you might have to say, 'No I do not want to see you again. No, really. No, I am not going to give you a list of reasons why, this is not a job interview, I am just not attracted to you. What? You need to know? Why? If I tell you why I'm not attracted to you, I just know you will go away, try to change those things, and then come back. Me not being attracted to you does not mean you are unattractive to everyone. Attraction is not particularly rational, it just is, or isn't. Look, just accept that I do not get that 'spark' from you, you cannot make it happen, leave me alone now. Stop sitting outside my house. Stop calling me. Really. Or I will call the Police..'

So - with those two caveats in place, I really would recommend personals for just meeting people. I had some great dates, went to places I'd not been, got to have new conversations and hear new opinions, and realised that there are decent chaps out there, but didn't meet anyone I really clicked with.

Funnily enough, I've had more luck with two of the things that consume high proportions of my time - b3ta and the pub. Thank you, b3ta, for providing me with a new friend in the form of missus big girls blouse, who is travelling all the way down south to see me tomorrow. And thank you the pub. I've sat in you for years moaning about the fact that I'd never meet anyone as I never went anywhere else, all the while not going anywhere else.. and now I'm living, in a state of blissful knackerdness, with the bar manager.
