This is a question Stupid Colleagues

Godwin's Lawyer tells us: "I once worked with a lad who believed 'Frankenstein' was based on a true story, and that the book was written by Shirley Bassey." Tell us about your workplace dopes.

Tit-tanic
When Titanic came out I was chatting with three colleagues, one of whom about going to see it that night. I made the observation that while three hours was far too long for any film, the special effects were supposed to be fabulous. I quite fancied watching it launch, going out for a pint and then going back in for the last hour to watch it sink.

At which point the girl who was going to see it got a bit huffy. "What do you mean, it sinks? Well, thanks for spoiling it for me!" And walked off. It was mildly funny. I thought she was joking.

She wasn't.

The ship
doesn't launch for way too long - the first twenty minutes or so of the film, set in the modern day, are completely unncessary IMHO.

Still never seen the film...
...and I still don't feel I've missed anything.

"Ship launches, Kate Winslet gets her kit off, ship sinks."
I believe this was the original brief given to the writers, who filled around with the usual bits about choppy water and hard done by but fantastically chipper Irish folk dancing below decks.

The CGI of the ship is pathetic.
The helicopter-style shots of the ship sailing make it look like something someone threw together using the level editor for an old game for five minutes -- the people look like the Russian dolls which house other, smaller, dolls.
The entire film was a waste of time and money.

Spoilers.
A sort-of friend saw it before we had a chance to and we jokingly told him not to spoil the ending. Oh, we laughed. Then he told that it sunk. We laughed again. Then he told us that Leo died, that the old lady threw the necklace into the ocean at the end and that we should go see it as it was really good. Didn't laugh quite so much.

In a similar example of film-based idiocy
My sister's co-worker went to see The Fellowship of the Ring and told my sister afterwards 'Yeah, it was brilliant! Dying for a sequel though, I wonder if they'll make one'.

You never know, they might even do a book of the film.

thanks for the confirmation
now I know I've missed nothing.

I had a similar experience
with someone who had Apollo 13 "ruined" for them that way....
