This is a question Tightwads

There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

Society doesn't tell us to pay for everything.
Consumerism tells us to pay for everything.
Society tells us that it's easier to pay for everything - how much you pay depends on your income and priorities.

Want food? Buy in bulk, cook things from scratch including low end 'convenience' food like tinned chick peas.

Clothes? Easy peasy. Charity shop/freecycle, needle, thread, dressmaking scissors etc.

Transport? Feet, bikes. Both cheap or free.

Most of us know we can do the above, or more. Most of us don't do it because it erodes our standard of living and leisure time.

Do your best, and try to avoid being a leech on society.

cycling doesn't erode my standard of living
or leisure time. It's often faster cycling through town than driving through it, and it keeps me fit and I can give smug looks at the goons stuck in a traffic jam as glide past :D

Yes, but it depends on each person
Whether it affects you depends on your own situation. For some people it will be a positive advantage, whilst for others it will be a severe issue in their life..
