This is a question Unemployed

I was Mordred writes, "I've been out of work for a while now... however, every cloud must have a silver lining. Tell us your stories of the upside to unemployment."

You can tell us about the unexpected downsides too if you want.

I might as well be unemployed...
My cunt of an employer has delayed salaries for the last month and now I'm starting to panic that I'm not going to be paid at all.

Be careful,
a tip which has questionable legality but may help in the long run will be to take something of value. Deppending on your employer this could be an asset or simply information.

It will give you some bargaining if things go down shit creek and if things are never resolved you have something to sell to recoup losses.

Sounds like a fair bet.
The first 2 months the pay was late and now the last month's hasn't even been discussed. I've sent a few requests but have all been ignored.

Highly inflammatory
If it's a certainty the place is going down, could you send in the baliffs?

This will of course leave your career with them dead in the water - but you can't pay the bills with employer goodwill.

Yes, be careful.
Getting paid on time is just about the least you should EXPECT from ANY job. As a company, you can fuck your suppliers' invoices off for a while, your bank's, your landlord's, your wife's but NEVER your staff wages.

Not being able to trust your wages to be regular can undermine your entire life. It forces YOU to play the game of putting off bills and debts 'until the cheque clears'.

If it was me, and it happened on one payment, I'd let it pass as long as I got a reasonable explanation. If it happenned again, I'd probably get up and walk out there and then and save myself 6 months of nail-biting misery.

My advice: confront the boss and demand reassurance. You have every right to feel deeply concerned and personally inconvenienced. If he values you at all he will share those concerns. At the end of the day, he needs his staff.
