This is a question Waste of money

I once paid a small fortune to a solicitor in a legal case. She got lost on the way to court, turned up late with the wrong papers and started an argument with the judge, who told her to "shut up, for the love of God". A stunning investment.

Thanks to golddust for the suggestion

Last week
I bought tickets to see Norman Wisdom as an after-dinner speaker.

Too soon?

Maybe you could volunteer to stand in.
What with you being great at comedy and all that.

How is that a waste of money? Surely you're paying for the dinner? Wisdom was clearly a special guest.
I don't think that's a waste of money if he was doing it for free anyway.

I've checked all around and I can't find any details about Norman Wisdom appearing as an after-dinner speaker anywhere.
To be honest, I'm questioning whether or not the tickets you bought were legitimate in the first place.

This. I've double-checked, and he hasn't done any after dinner speeches for around nine years.
I think James might be lying for the purpose of some poor taste humour.

I sure hope there's going to be an apology soon.

Look on the bright side:
He's much funnier now. I've already laughed twice on this thread, which is twice more than I've ever laughed at him before.
