Someone should compile a list of things like this.

(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:13, archived)
and put it on a handy website!
Maybe in blog format!
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:17, archived)
Are they shit,
or are you a curmudgeon who think's retro is cool and wont look at the possibility that maybe contemporary stuff that appeals to your own age group is actually alright, and you have some kind of complex?

I'm assuming you're 20 or something.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:09, archived)
No, they're shit.
We were having a vague conversation about television from "when we were younger". Contemporary stuff didn't come into it.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:10, archived)
this is why my fucking blog exists
wannafeelold.tumblr.com

why bother keeping a blog about this subject if nobody will ever fucking refer to it

Don't you mean a shit 10 or 11 people?
I mean, they didn't even know what fucking Bullseye was FFS
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:12, archived)
Bullseye was the worst. I got accused of "making it up"

(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:14, archived)
Ha ha ha!
They didn't believe that a washed up stand up comic presented a primetime Sunday afternoon gameshow featuring a cartoon bull that played darts where the object included spelling a word and throwing darts at a prize board to win a teasmaid, a set of matching luggage and had a star prize of a speedboat, a caravan or a fitted kitchen??
The fucking idiots.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:16, archived)
Now you put it that way....
I said "a quiz show that had a darts theme"

Their response was "that's a fucking lie, nobody likes darts."

Isn't it still shown on one of the dole channels?

(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:15, archived)
Yes but who watches the Challenge channel?

(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:17, archived)

If they are about 20 then they would have been 6.
I have only vague memories of tv programs from a few years back, never mind when I was six.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:17, archived)
Quite so
It's eminently reasonable that they either wouldn't have watched it or would have forgotten it if they did.

I remember it all too well. I was 17 or 18 in 1995.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:19, archived)
Well you can thank your lucky stars that you do,
else Karl would think you're shit too!
And i'm sure you'd be gutted.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:23, archived)
He probably thinks I'm shit anyway
for some other reason. Possibly for being too old.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:27, archived)
Two out of the three shows he mentioned have been referenced in popular culture more recently though.
There has been a fuckload of talking head style "I LOVE OLD TELLY" or "100 FUNNIEST OLD TELLY MOMENTS" programmes or failing that, there is always "PETER KAY'S ONE TRICK PONY STAND-UP ACT" which he has been doing as late as 2005
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:20, archived)
i fucking hate peter kay

Though I did quite like Phoenix Nights
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:23, archived)
But if you don't remember the old telly
there's absolutely no point in watching nostalgia shows about it.

They're nearly unbearable to watch sober even if you DO remember the shows.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:23, archived)
That's why I always watch TV drunk.
Not that I even own an TV
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:26, archived)
I see what you're saying,
but if you didn't know the shows those programs would wash over you.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:25, archived)
I guess I'm one of a select few people that have knowledge of things that happened before I was 6
I could probably make quite a list of "Things That Existed Prior to 1981"

I wonder if thingsthatexistedbeforeiwas6yearsold.tumblr.com is available?
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:30, archived)
I think things that existed before 1981 would be quite a long list.
Maybe narrow it to 'Things that existed before 1981, but after 1975, and happened in the region where I lived or were viewable on local televison'
(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:39, archived)
Either way, Karl's friends are probably still shit

(, Fri 6 Nov 2009, 23:48, archived)
