alright Ferris Bueller

I've never seen that.

(, Thu 8 Feb 2018, 9:53, archived)
at least you "get it"

(, Thu 8 Feb 2018, 9:55, archived)
I don't think I do, not having seen it and that,
but I am aware that Ferris Bueller is the name of a character from a film, in which he allegedly has a big day out.

I tried to watch it once but didn't get very far.
Then read the plot on Wikipedia and it made me want to watch it even fewer.

I tried to watch it once as well, it was fucking bollocks

(, Thu 8 Feb 2018, 10:45, archived)
I think the trick is to watch it when you're a teenager,
so that the escapist fantasy seems relevant to your life at the time.

Ah

Like the Breakfast Club.
That seems like bollocks now but it was acceptable in the eighties.

now it's a euphemism for childcare provided at schools, staffed by school leavers of no fixed ability

Kind of like paedophilia then, got it

Thinking about summer holidays now
Assuming my wife gets the bonus she's been promised, the idea being kicked around is that she goes to Australia for maybe 10 days and I take my kid to the seaside whilst she's there. I don't want to go anyway, and the money we'd save by my not going would amply cover not only my seaside jaunt but a whole other luxury hol for the pair of us another time. I rather fancy Sardinia.

She gets two whole weeks more leave a year than I do :(

Trust you to spend ten whole days without your wife dropping the kids off at the seaside.

I'm afraid that doesn't fit in with your ex's plans

(, Thu 8 Feb 2018, 10:07, archived)
Hahaha you are so right
Just last week I said 'I want to book a week away with the kid in the summer please. Do you have any plans, is there a preferred week that's best for you?'

The response was basically that she can't commit to any plans in case later on she decides to make some plans that would then clash with the previous plans made when she had no plans.

keyword: no

Going to Worthing or further afield?

(, Thu 8 Feb 2018, 10:21, archived)
That rather depends on you, dear boy

Fill yer boots.
Just gimme some dates. Can be provisional for now.

Splendid, will do

"I'll wait until you book the tickets and the time off work and then tell you that week doesn't work for me."

(, Thu 8 Feb 2018, 10:22, archived)
I will always ask first, as that's the polite thing to do
I always get the same bullshit reply, so my next move is to book the holiday and the time off and tell her I've done it. And tell the kid.

It's then up to her mum if she wants to tell her that she can't go, and why that is. Worst case I go away on my own, but her mum doesn't have it in her to actually deny the girl a holiday, she just wants to fuck me about

I like the cut of her jib.
