It's a hard investment that pays dividends
Infants are monumentally hard work, especially if they get colicky like mine and 2Can's. And they're fucking expensive too, especially if you need childcare instead of having a stay-at-home wife. Mine didn't really become fun until she hit 2, and started producing meaningful sentences and a decent degree of dexterity.

arse wedged in your elbow, face cupped in your palm. Support with your second arm from underneath, then gently bounce.
Alternatively, dance a waltz while singing lyrics from Radiohead's 1997 album "OK Computer".

Take the kid for a drive, either that or put it in its car seat and swing it back and forth.
Never fails.
I got forearms like fucking Popeye looking after my niece when she was a baby. Every fucking time she finally dropped off and I stopped swinging her she'd fucking wake up and start screaming again.

Not that it's ever excusable, but I suppose there's violence that stabilizes areas prone to violence. And violence that doesn't. Effect and intent make a huge difference.
Also she didn't need no man to buy her shoes.
