# I'm on b3ta which means I'm not doing anything productive
;)

# Yup. I'm going to have to switch off my internet today, I think.
And I will - in a bit.

# I get up with every intention to get my webste finished
then I log onto my computer and head straight to b3ta and then I don't do anything else for the rest of the day
- in all fairness I've got to re-educate myself on CSS and maybe CSS3, HTML, PHP and MYSQL which I'm sort of mentally putting off all the time.

I want to build a site that has an image gallery that automatically creates thumbnail icons of my images that are linked to the pictures and something
that I can sort the images by filetype and whether they are for the b3ta gallery or my own galleries.

# so
not much on then?
(, Fri 6 May 2011, 11:04, archived)
# No it's not as diffcult as it sounds
I have a very detailed PHP book that show me how to access a directory on my website
and crop and/or resize a picture to a specific size and save this thumbnail to another directory
where it can be used as a thumbnail to the picture in the orginal directory
- that's not a problem it's putting it together with CSS and HTML so that the thumbnail
appears in the correct place with it's link on the webpage. I'm not great at CSS but still
learning mostly poaching bits of CSS scripts from tutorials online and modiftying them to work with my website.

I'm ambitious about this website as I want to demonstrate that I can design my own website.

I get up with every intention to get my website chapter finished then I log onto my computer and head straight to b3ta and then I don't do anything else for the rest of the day.

You've pretty much described what goes on in my house.

# I get up, go to work then lurk on B3ta all day.
I really need to get myself a job where I have to do some work.

# Maybe we could swap jobs - can you drive a bus?

# are you working today?
i see your police stories made it to qotw: b3ta.com/board/10412157

# I'm supposed to be working, yep:
I'd wanted to get the chapter I'm writing out of the way by a few days ago. I missed that target, and am in no danger of finishing it today either. I really should get my arse in gear.

(I've twigged that the trick to getting a QotW selected is to post a suggestion late on Wednesday, since it seems only to be the most recent few that get put to the vote recently...)

# what are you writing?
and what chapter are you currently (not) working on?
(, Fri 6 May 2011, 11:09, archived)
# A book on the ethics of human enhancement, and how it's basically OK but nothing to get excited about.
Certainly not obligatory, as some people I know seem to think.

I've decided that I can't put of writing chapters 1 and 2 - the methodological ones - any longer. Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are in various states of completion; I've not begun on chapters 3 or 4 yet.

I've got about 3 months left to get it all done - and instead, I'm twatting about here. Eeep.

EDIT: And with that, I'd better be off. Maybe I'll pop back in an hour or two if I've got enough words done.

# do you mean like cybernetics
or like my kind of enhancment - i have these special lenses that make me able to see far away clearly? ;)
(, Fri 6 May 2011, 11:19, archived)
# Mainly biological, but with a bit of cybernetics thrown in when I look at intellectual enhancement.
But, yeah, along those lines.

I'm working on the assumption that enhancements are worth pursuing to the extent that they contribute to the good life; so I need to work out what constitutes "the good life" (that's the tricky bit, but I have some ideas), whether a number of enhancements really do contribute to it so much after all (a few, yes; most, not really; and one or two might be antagonistic), and whether there's a duty to enhance/ genetically engineer your kids (not really, though it might be admirable).

Right. Must. Be. Off.

# Chapter 3: The idiosyncracies of the folds in a cat's anus
(, Fri 6 May 2011, 11:15, archived)
# If only.
Chapter 3 is on why trying to make yourself immortal by fiddling around with your genes is perfectly acceptable, but a bit silly and will make your life worse even if you succeed.
(, Fri 6 May 2011, 11:18, archived)
# Yes
but it's called "The idiosyncracies of the folds in a cat's anus", isn't it?
