Any hints and tips you lovely people could give me in reducing the file sizes of anims would be greatly appreciated.

for a start half the number of frames, it does not need to be that clear. plus change lossy to about 10-20 depending on how far you dare go. Take down the colours a bit at a time and see how that goes. and if its still too big I start reducing from 280 by 1/4 each time.

its a toolbar, view the file in a smallish window and there is an optimise tab, click that and make sure you have the optimise toolbar open and all the options are in there.
