# not seen that one
hi cockalorum!
(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:49, archived)
# lol !
cooll ... a bit dark ... but cool :)
(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:49, archived)
# the optimisation
focused on the darker shades... lightening it all up would have been far too time-consuming (no actual video editing software, just virtualdub and imageready)

# Try adding a Hue & Saturation Adjustment Layer in Photoshop
and then set the blending tone to screen. That will lighten all the frames. Then to save on file size delete every alternate frame.

# ooh
adjustment layers... something else I've not played with

see, this is what's great about this place - I've been photoshopping for over 7 years and I'm still learning how bits of it work.

but I don't wanna lose any frames! but I may cut down how many timed they nod - it's only now occured to me that when the camera angle changes you just have to match where it was before - shall do it soon.

# Yeah there's so much to learn about Potatoshop
and just when you think there's nothing new someone tells you a new trick. I have a friend in an Oxford Museum (Pitt Rivers) as Chief Photographer he's always telling me great tricks and shortcuts.

# did you
add the black lines before or after you optimised?
(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:52, archived)
# before
without them it topped 300KB even at that size... I could possibly lose more frames, but the heads get too jerky then

p.s. just seen bounceattack (linked below), loved both of these - hope there's more in the future!

# I think
the black lines might be fooling imageready into putting too much detail into the real lines - there are lots of specs showing up. I might be wrong though, I have a hunch the best way to do it is to squash the image, optimise it with lossy turned on a bit and then add the black lines and optimise again... maybe.

yeah, I'm practising drawing by hand, it's quite fun :)

# IR
doesn't remember how it optimised it on prior goes, unless I maybe saved it out as a gif first... hm, may experiment sometime.

mind you, a lot of those odd specks are artifacts from having lossy turned up to about 40 and the palette down to like 32 or something - oh, the perils of turning DVD-quality video into a board-sized animation!
(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:59, archived)
# I know,
but it wouldn't matter, the first optimisation would smooth the colours, the second would do nothing.

then again, you could always get rid of the black lines, squash the image and then use the height tag to stretch it when you post... I don't know, wooyays used to be much simpler ;)
(, Mon 22 Sep 2003, 0:03, archived)
# or just make them nod fewer times?
or is that too simple?
(, Mon 22 Sep 2003, 0:06, archived)
# hm...
will have to see how the frames match up...
(, Mon 22 Sep 2003, 0:07, archived)
# :P
I try not to use size tags 'cause they can slow things down for a lot of people... I do have simpler woos, it's just this one fitted in so well - the amerib3tans would get it more though. ;)

# oooops
just one ickle comment an i started some mass-debate about optimisation an other confusin stuff... :) soz lol

(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:54, archived)
# haha
I see what you mean
(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:58, archived)
# Well I was listening to Iron Maiden...
but teen spirit is a better idea, brings back drunken memories of trying to teach someone how to headbang at a christmas party last year...
(, Sun 21 Sep 2003, 23:58, archived)
# teaching someone to headbang?
were they a bit... you know.... slow?
(, Mon 22 Sep 2003, 0:01, archived)
# Yes. Well, drunk.
She kept messing up, kept changing tempo and the like, obviously wasnt following the drums yet alone the harder riffage territory. It was only Nevermind, thats what gets me, something like sepultura and her poor head probably would have fallen off.
