# PNG is optimised
the reason lots of people choose to use it is because it`s completely open - JPG and GIF contain patents, and a few years ago, somebody or other was demanding royalties for the use of GIF software in web browsers

it seems to have fallen by the side of the road however, which is just as well as PNG compression isn`t great :\
(, Tue 7 Jun 2005, 16:26, archived)
# Actually PNG
can be compressed very small if you use the right software. It's just that most paint packages don't bother with the compression stuff, because they're a bunch of lazy gits.

# OvenReady does a decent job if it`s GIF-able
and the file size is usually a few bytes more..

maybe I`ve missed the compression thingalisers in Photoshop - there`s nothing useful for controlling it within Photoshop Elements

# well, it didn't take long to bork the webspace, did it?
(, Tue 7 Jun 2005, 16:30, archived)
# dunno I can still see it
but those servers are weird.. I`ve never seen a single picture on them from home, and that was with two different ISPs
(, Tue 7 Jun 2005, 16:36, archived)
# good pic but please
save them as JPGs. That PNG is a bit huge in file size.
(, Tue 7 Jun 2005, 16:21, archived)
# That's why they're called PNGs, you know.
It's the special belming noise dial-up people make when they tried to load one... pppnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg.

# Very good
