[challenge entry]

Quick question: are the backgrounds of my other images black, grey or transparent? They're meant to be transparent, but if I look at them in Internet Explorer they're grey, and when opened in image viewing software they're pure black :/

# That's because they're PNGs- they contain an Alpha layer that
IE can't use (until IE7).
Other software might not be able to use alpha channels so it renders the transparent bits black.

Firefox, and most other browsers, draw PNGs correctly, so they show up with a transparent background.

# Ah, cheers.
So should I start using GIFs, or should I just keep using pngs and say "Screw the IE users"? ;p

# Up to you really.
PNG24 (I think that's what yours is) can do different levels of transparency- gradients for example, but they come with a large filesize. PNG8 is much like GIF- good for flat blocks of colour and on/off transparency.
For stuff like this I'd use either GIF or PNG8- you'll get sharper text out of it too. GIFs work in all browsers though :)

# Cheers
Would've been handy if I had known this before I made all this stuff :D
