# 'ningles matey, 'ningles all.
That waas a bit big on the FB but I have to admit it was very funny. I have to admit I do think the filesize allowance should go up a little now that ADSL is getting cheaper.

# i agree to a point.
the polite thing to do would be make the file as small as possible (maintaining quality) rather than posting to a number that people can obsess over
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:26, archived)
# with a hard limit of 500kb?
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:31, archived)

# for b3ta hosting
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:34, archived)
# thing is if you set a hard limit of x kB, then someone gets a bollocking from a bunch of people who can't tollerate x+1kB
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:33, archived)
# since when do we like 376 kB pictures?

# front page horse anim 392k
oh, it's suddenly borked, maybe someones resizing it.... nope its back and same size
It's not hard to make it smaller, here's a 242k one, and if you double the width in html its even a visible size! www2.b3ta.com/host/creative/46786/1225095477/horsejump.gif
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:13, archived)
# and apparently if you think 392k is too big
then you're just jealous and any praise one gives is grudged.

Anyway, it gives me as good an excuse as any to stop ruining my animations through optimising. Bring on the 300k+ anarchy.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:18, archived)
# thing is, viewing it first thing this morning
it was chugging to load it and all the other FP anims, so it spoilt the motion.

Keep the 250k and 50k-ish sizes, this isn't YouTube or CGSociety
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:20, archived)
# apologies
I didn't FP it myself.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:22, archived)
# I've got nothing against it being FP'd
its just the 400k that's annoying, when the rest of us optimize all the colour and size out of our animations then something gets FP'd at double the size, it makes you wonder why you bother trying to be nice.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:26, archived)
# yes, this, emphatically this.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:29, archived)
# This is why I figured you were pissed off about it.
Fortunately all my stuff is utter badger-twoddle so I have nothing to feel jealous about:D

EDIT: Feel free to interject at any time.

EDIT EDIT: Aaaaany time now.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Yeah. Interjecting aaaaaany time.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: *taps watch*
hmmm.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:29, archived)
# I'm not pissed off
It'd just be nice for this place to make a decision so confusion and irks like this don't arise and everyone can make animations to the same shiny - or optimized with a link to bigger - level.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:34, archived)
# I'm amazed the ammount of times I've been called a nazi
coz I've had a go at someone who's lurked for years, posted a 300k still. Them's the rule. I stick to them so why the hell shouldn't they?!
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:36, archived)
# you can be less than polite. and you have roasted the odd noob
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:41, archived)
# I really don't care if they're a noob.
Especially if there has been ten of them posting in a couple of hours as they must have seen what's already happened.
To many people think they can post a large image as they don't know how to make a smaller one. They have the internet, they can find out easily enough.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:45, archived)
# I think someone needs to re-jig the faq
the fact that it's only a guidline and the fact it still stays 280 wide for the FP, makes me think it won't happen.

edit: Also if they said 150k still and 350k anim, everyone would use the max, would this not rock the b3ta servers a little?
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:41, archived)
# Yes an maybe saying it's OK to do a text post once in awhile but only it you actually contribute to the board.
A stupid number of noobs post text and then troll that it says they can of the faq.
Either that or state no text posts what so ever.

EDIT: I don't think the FAQ has changed in the last 3-4 years and the board was a very different place then with a lot less people. I think b3ta couple go the way IRC did when internet became commonplace.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:48, archived)
# I've never been a lover of text
I'd not be sad to see it stopped.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:50, archived)
# Yeah me too.
I'll go as far to say I fucking hate it. It's another sign that FAQ is faqqing (see what I did there?) out of date. That was there before the talkboard existed and the talkboard exists so text only post don't happen on the messageboard.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:53, archived)
# Exactly!
I think they should make it impossible to post a new thread without a picture.
It would stop alot of mistake new thread posts too!
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:55, archived)
# I think if we did that we'd get a huge amount of posts
of other people's stuff or random crap they found just so they were able to post the text.
One option would be it say you have to donate to post. A donation could be just a quid but it means then there's a recognised link between the user account and the person. If they troll that person from that address can then be banned and then preventing them from posting again. Regardless to wheather they us another IP or user account.
You could also state the if the account posts an commercial advert their card will be charged an additional £200 before the account is cancelled. That'll stop the ad posts.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:02, archived)
# Fucking hell!
Do you work for Southend Council?
:P
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:04, archived)
# No.
But I did use to work with local government and the NHS:P
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:06, archived)
# ........And if they complain about being charged
we'll charge them for looking into the charge that we have no intention of going back on.
:D
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:08, archived)
# Even simpler than that.
They have no choice as they would have agreed to that when they clicked 'I accept the terms and conditions'.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:11, archived)
# do you work the Bank of Scotland Halifax?
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:13, archived)

# hahaha
what a ludicrous idea.

It may just work.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 9:10, archived)
# I have to agree with this.
I had optimized the file twice previously, but then posted as I thouhgt it needed to be seen, never thought it would get FP'd.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:30, archived)
# What you can do if you don't want to compromise on quality or size
is post a still from it with text in it saying it links to your animation.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:32, archived)
# *remembers for future*

# that's true, he could do that.
but why should he, or anyone do that, now that the mods have apparently said that 400k is fine?
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:35, archived)
# Yeah but mods are the b3ta version of Hobby Bobbys.
They've got some power but their not the law.
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:37, archived)
# hmm
fair enough. in any case, i think the faq does need updating or clarifying.

but that might require someone doing some work. :O
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:56, archived)

it's a great animation.

# I'm too much of a stickler for the 250k rule, so I don't tend to have to optimise too much these days to get under it...
but could it be a sign that the times are changing, with the FP becoming 400pix wide, perhaps the anim guidelines will be changed...
(, Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:25, archived)
