sorry, it's a bit of a knee-jerk with me.I used to get so pissed off with people complaining about BBCW leeching money from the License Fee payers, when it so plainly isn't the case.

This^^^^The BBC is one thing I am extremely proud of as a Brit. I think people in England sometimes forget how well respected it is round the world, and how good it actually is at times!
I only ever really watch the BBC and Channel 4 myself.
Also, I am more pissed off by the fact that Two Pints of Lager was allowed to take money from the BBC for so long. And not just that, the fact that they have let the writer of it have a new fucking show!

without the BBC, we wouldn't have developed the great comedy from the50's onwards, both TV and radio. Hancock, Round the Horne, ISIHAC, Python, making BIG stars out of Morcambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, The Young Ones, Blackadder, The Was the Week that Was, Frost Report etc. The list goes on.
Also, look at the reign David Attenborough has had through the BBC to educate and show us a world most of us take for granted.
Documentaries, dramas, etc, the BBC produced epic shows on epics budgets through our fees, Abigail's party, Boys from the Black Stuff, I Claudius to name but a few. - These all stand the test of time.
And where would we be without radio 4?
/loves the beeb for the most part, and doesn't begrudge a penny of the licence fee. Although I take your point about 2 Pints, and equivalent shows. Amalgamate BBC3 and 4 into one channel and produce better quality shows to hit both target audiences, and stop trying to make BBC3 into E4 - we don't need it

People seem to misunderstand the license fee.You do not pay it to the BBC and it does not directly fund the BBC. The license fee is paid as a tax to the government who in turn fund the national TV station for it to provide educational and public service broadcasting. The license fee that you pay is for you to own and operate a receiver of TV signals ( and radio of course )which now includes your mobile phone and computer. It does not mention the BBC, is not collected by the BBC and has nothing to do with them.
Whilst I have nothing against the BBC I do believe that it has no further right to exist in its current form because it is not a national TV station providing the services that were required of it when it was created. That is why they get government funding and ultimately what the taxpayer pays for.
There is only one reason why the BBC exists despite not fulfilling its brief for decades and that is simply because the fact that it is government funded allows the incumbents of the day to levy a very lucrative and stealthy ( by obfuscation ) tax on the populace.
The BBC is long overdue for privatisation and should be allowed to seek its funding in the same manner as commercial stations. Thus putting an end to what has been an unfair tax for at least 30 years.
