I too find the very idea of skiing holidays (along with the implied ability to just piss money up the wall, rather than use all you have just to stay alive) culturally repellent.
Let 'em get on with it. It's not as if they end up any happier.

*still has chip on shoulder, to put it mildly, from being the only kid not able to go on any of the school trips, cos of the trifling matter that they cost several hundred quid.
And couldn't even go on the trip to Alton Towers, so was made to go in to school, in uniform, and do maths worksheets alone all day in the deputy head's office.
Christ, that was a bad day.
The school really resented the kids who were there on merit.
And now, years later, I moan at innocent bystanders whose only crime is having had fun.*
