International Rugby Challenge review from Amiga Power
6
One of the reviews which brought AP a libel suit (unsuccessful) after we compared the game to several global atrocities. The final mark of 2% was chosen when we decided that it actually sounded worse than 1% (which comes across as a flippant novelty sort of mark, whereas 2% sounds like you mean it.

Overly complicated game (both the sport and video game)
I prefer the simpler, faster, harder-hitting version of 13-a-side rugby.

I can't be sure as I enjoy rugby but I have only a limited understanding of what the bloody hell is going on.
A) Ball kicked over big "H" = good.
B) Ball carried to end of field = better.
If (B) Then there is an opportunity to perform (A) unmolested.
Aside from that it's just competitive tag to me.

The award for Best Computer Magazine Issue Ever still goes to "Your Sinclair issue #21" for me.
I remember buying it as a lad reading it on the way to school and finding this poster inside. (NSFW)
Game was crap though.

Preferred #29 myself.
from May 1988.
(Though the game was even worse).
Actually, best cover ever has to be Oli Frey's work on Crash #28, May 1986.

Ah the Game Over poster
This too occupied my bedroom wall, along with the Barbarian and Vixen posters. Excellent. Zzap!64 had their in-house artist draw over the nips in their in-magazine adverts for the game. Now 14 year old kids are four clicks away from whatever kind of pron they can imagine. Lucky bastards.

The writing style in those were great, I recall Crash and Sinclair User being very funny...
...I got the most laughs out of CVG until Console specific mags came out and no one wanted to slag off games to avoid losing exclusivity rights etc.

ZERO picked up many of the writers from YS and had a similar style for 16-bit / PC coverage
But was sadly short-lived as people just went for single-format mags.
