How does the smell compare with Durian?

Hating fish and not being too offended by Durian
I would say much worse!! However my Mother who projectile vomits at the slightest whiff of Durian (and actually lives in Malaysia!!) might disagree. She also likes fish, but generally not the rotten variety!

as someone who enjoys eating both of these...
Durian's much more subtle. You can smell surströmming a mile off, and it really does smell like rotting fish and death.
The Swedes only ever eat it outside and on paper plates. My buddy even has a can opener that's only for surströmming.
