Always check your mirror first, open the site handle and allow the door to open an inch or two, warning anyone you might have missed. Slowly open door. Sorted.

If I was a cyclist
And i saw a door slowly opening in front of me I would probably try and take evasive action. Slowly opening your car door does not say "it's okay I am being careful" to a cyclist it's more like a slow ambush. Just look behind you at your blind spot and check the mirror twice
