This is a normal post It's the standard A-series engine
As fitted in that '73 variant of a BMC ADO16.

Very reliable engines. Until you bore it out to 1340, like wot I did.

This is a normal post Crikey standard A Series just like my Mini
What happened with the re-bore as I'm planning to get mine done to 1340 as the rings have gone and it needs a mid rebuild?

This is a normal post Start with a GOOD 1275
Preferably from a Cooper; you can get away with more because the tolerences were higher.

1340 is generally OK; if you go to 1380 or more, you have to offset the pistons, which needs a real expert and increases the danger of rapid unscheduled disassembly.

You really need to upgrade other stuff, to get much benefit - ie a ported/flowed valves, a better carb, electronic ignition...and you'd be mad not to get good disk breaks and larger wheels.

Basically, cut a long story short... it's quicker to simply empty out your bank account and flush it down the toilet.

But it's kinda worth it when you drop it down to 3rd at 70mph, spin the wheels, and fly past a ferrari.

This is a normal post Cheers
Mine is a 2000 Cooper Sport so bigger wider wheels with 'S' Works conversion so stage 3 head, 1.5:1 rollers, 52mm throttle body. Replaced front calipers with 4 pot alloys and vented disks and replaced rear drums with Fins. Breaking so much better.

As 2000 MPi it has the dreaded Mems ECU which cannot be tinkered with so pretty much of the new power was lost. "Flushes"

Won't get through another MOT as burning so much oil now. Head been refurbished with new valves so must be rings going as now over 100,000.

Plan is Swiftune SW5 Cam, rebore and up-rated pistons. The crucial bit is the Specialist Components MPi throttle body kit with new ECU which can be mapped.

Yep flush the toilet but we have been together for 14 years now and the grin value every day is worth it.

This is a normal post Should be golden at 1340,
Yep, rings prolly shot; boring makes sense. At least, it's a good excuse.

If you fit the head back yourself, put a shit-ton of gasket gunge all round the edges.

Use pukka mineral oil, do not skimp on that. But don't use the modern crap; gotta be something/50 not 40. Valvoline Racing, Castrol classic or someth. IDK if your manifold is uprated; if not, you want that; check LCB, lengthened centre branch. Probably want an extra oil cooler radiator in there, and maybe a better water rad/fan. G'luck.
