A few years ago -
well, in 1997 (eeep!) - I did a ride down Cotopaxi. Basically, you hired a bike, and a bloke drove you in his truck up to the snowline. Then you'd ride to the bottom. The truck'd be nearby so that, as you descended from tundra to tropical forest, you could stop every so often to get rid of a layer of clothes.
But, basically, it was a 40km freewheel.
Slightly more sedate than this, though...
