The Ride of Life

There was a small community of people near where I lived many years ago
Making all sorts of "art" and getting grants from the local council etc and I remember one day asking a council worker where all the "art" went to as I never saw any of it after the various shows it appeared at. It was mentioned that it had all been sold to various private collectors however he simply said "landfill" Every single bit of it, not one bit was ever sold , they couldn't even give it away nor take it to the scrappy as somebody would see it so under the cover of darkness these "special" works that cost the council thousands ended up buried in landfill sites. a fitting end if you ask me, pity they didn't some of those fecking hippies with it.

I'm glad we get council funded art,
even if some of it is really shit. I like looking at the bad stuff and working out how it could have been done better. It's only really the decorative meh art I struggle to find anything in.
(Genuinely love the artists in the video, though)

yes a certain banana springs to mind.
Most people hate that as they never thought of it. I did try it myself with an apple gaffa taped to a fence post but was told to fuck off by the owner. On hindsight, I should have used my own fence. But yeah, Hunkin FTW

One of the newsreaders asked of the banana “but is it art?”
If you have to ask, probably not.

Its a slippery slope to hipster land once you become a hippie.
I'd be doing them all a favour.

my five year old could do better, call that art etc etc
You are a philistine and also not getting the point. Creation is good for the soul. The value to others is irrelevant.

wow! I just read the other comments
what a lot of miserable people. Art is subjective so you can't expect to like all of it. Politicians hate art because it often exposes what's wrong with society and criticises their greed and so it becomes ever more under funded - which must please the most miserable and joyless people. Councils had more money to spend on art and playgrounds and recs and filling holes in the road back when this film was made as it our taxes were still paying local councils not all being funnelled to central government for their dodgy deals. I wish this ride of life had been made, it would've become much loved in Sheffield I'm sure.
