but why does everyone feel the need to resort to using parts of the 28 days later soundtrack whilst producing apocalyptic short films? I've seen it countless times.

you sure you're not confusing it with "Lux Aeterna" by Clint Mansell? That's a similar kind of repeating tune and gets used all over the place. I was amused to see it on an X-Factor trailer as all I could think whilst watching those dozy trollops was 'ASS TO ASS!'. More so than normal.
