Is it just the way they're portrayed here in the UK
or are the majority of republicans rather unpleasant selfish violent angry people? I encountered a few whilst out in the US earlier in the year (but not enough to form a general opinion), and whilst one or two were perfectly pleasant, the rest seemed to be slightly unpleasant, a little racist, and completely ignorant of the world around them.
I think the best thing they could do for their publicity is silence their supporters....

I've never met a nice republican ...
Actually I have met some. I now live in the States and I have a few friends and acquaintances who vote Republican. They are decent people, but it always worries me that they use financial and taxation as justification for their political beliefs - at the expense of what ? women's rights ? gay rights ? etc ...
There's a lot of right wing arseholes around too, mind you.

The really scary thing is how they are reacting
There seems to be a huge amount of anger about the fact that more than half the country doesn't share their opinion. Seems they don't really want to have a democracy at all, they are after more of a dictatorship.
