This is a link post Review of For Your Eyes Only

This is a normal post Does anyone else remember the 2CV chase as having taken place in Spain?
Because even as a kid who'd never been abroad I was thinking 'Why does the bus sign say 'MADRID' when it's blatantly obvious to any half-wit they're in Greece'?
(I've since made a LEGO 2CV and photographed it on that exact bend. And nearly got mashed by a bus coming down the same way. Didn't say 'Madrid' on that one either).

Could be a really long bus route? Athens to Madrid in just three and a half days. Driver gets 10 minutes for a wee, then has to turn the bus around and head back.

This is a normal post Or that's what they tell people.
Really they just head back and forth between two old villages, paying the locals to wear different hats and funnel the local piss into Corona bottles instead of Mythos ones.

This is a normal post Limited budget, cheaper to shoot in Greece than Spain, probably.
The bus was Greek built.
The apperance of the rear end on the film poster was achieved by having the model wear her pants backwards.

That's absolutely it. The rest of the location stuff was filmed on location in Greece. Are you going to set up a whole other location shoot for a ten minute sequence in Spain, or just do the whole thing in the Greek hills and hope nobody notices?

This is a normal post Exactly it. Glad to see I'm not the only one; it didn't fool anyone AT ALL that it was Spain!
It's nearly all Corfu too. I can see several places I've stayed or snorkelled in the opening flypast.
It's a bit of a lark to seek out the filming spots, as they're not too far apart and it's a fairly cheap holiday.
The first 'St Cyrils', with the wedding party, is in a place called 'Danilia', which was built as a living museum, but never really made any money until ITV revived it for filming 'The Durrells'. It's open to the public now, and even the church looks the same. Although the confessional bit out the back where Bond meets Q is somewhere else entirely, as Greek Orthodox churches don't have Catholic guilt-o-cubes. The car-park entrance is familiar too, as it's used as the wall of the 'Spanish' mansion (the mansion with the pool was still only a few miles away). And the 'Albanian' warehouse is the Corfu Yacht Club below the old fort.
Only the climbing bits are on the mainland, at Meteora, which is another RUDDY spectacular bit of the world.

Just listened to this and I'm glad I made time for it. Very silly.
