hate to say it but the tauntaun and AT-ATs looks terrible in HD
really stick out like a sore thumb

It was made 40 years ago
I think it holds up pretty well. Particularly the weight of the Falcon on the asteroid sequence. The sunset on cloud city at the end was so beautifully done.
It's already aged better than the CG walkers/animals from the second prequel film.

yes the motion path is great and the prequels early CG looks terrible
still very sad to see how HD makes two of my favourite bits look so bad and yank you out of the mood.

I showed it to my nephew for the first time earlier this year
He was completely transfixed and immediately wanted an ATAT for his birthday.
I think it still works.

For me the sparks flying off when the snowspeeder gets hit look worse, but it's fine. Really.

that shot never looked good when it was first released, surprised it wasn't cut
but I think it's fine too, I don't think you're supposed to look at special effects too closely, including the ones in modern films, short cuts and stock particle effects etc. aren't difficult to spot
a few of my favourite films have "early CG" that wouldn't be considered good enough for a modern film, even though it was state-of-the-art at the time, but it doesn't matter because everything else is great

It has charm and style but not realism.
It looked shonky by the 80s when I first saw it as a child. ESB's tauntauns only look slightly better.
The Harryhausen low frame rate stop motion style still suits insects, reptiles and birds mind you.

I disagree - for that particular scene
I think a jerky, grinding, automaton is entirely right.
In the later attack on the boat, it’s the boat that’s the problem rather than Talos.

I only meant in relation to the effects not holding up well.
Seems unrealistic to expect that they should after this much time but comparing them with what went before shows the difference in quality.

I'm talking purely about the context of this trailer
they stick out as models in a way that they didn't with the original fuzzy edged film/video. It's the camera lens issue, not how well the At-At is built/animated
