This is a normal post What you morons can’t understand is that this imbecilic attempt to suppress the story has made it a thousand times bigger than it otherwise would have been. Fucktards.

This is a normal post Seriously though, who was he talking to?
There was no suggestion anywhere that anybody didn't know what he was getting at, until it spewed angrily out of his keyboard.

This is a normal post not really the same thing
the streisand effect and superinjunctions were about preventing information from going public, such as barb's house location or footballer's infidelities. this hunter biden post was already a story in a high circulation murdoch rag.
What was effective in the 2016 election was the placing of bullshit lies in front of people (targeted using big data sets of firms like Cambridge Analytica) who rely mostly on facebook (and now twitter) for their news, who in the absence of any critical analysis believed them. So these people were actively targeted to get the NYPost article in front of their eyeballs using facebook by using fb paid advertising model, which was one of the motivation for the ban. Facebook and twitter doing blanket bans on such bullshit limits that impact, which is why conservatives are bleating about cutting off what was an effective dirty trick. Sure, because of the controversy of banning, some people who didn't know about the original story may hear that it's been banned, but even that's not guaranteed as many of the people targeted don't read traditional news that discusses the banning. And crucially, though it may feed into the conspiracy theorist "all media is against trump" mindset, those that hear about the ban and the story will also now be aware that it's credibility has been challenged, something that wasn't done in 2016. As I said below, if it really was some killer blow against Biden maybe the ban would be counterproductive to his chances, though I'd still say bullshit lies should be policed whichever side it comes from

This is a normal post In 2020 you can use it sensu lato
"The Streisand effect is a social phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of further publicizing that information, often via the Internet."

I suggested the term as a succinct alternative to a robust comment

This is a normal post fair enough, though these modern coinages do tend to semantically broaden themselves, a bit like someone yesterday on links calling some trailertrash racist a "karen"
I was more making the case that the consequences wouldn't be that bad, and I think that's been evidenced by it mostly falling off the news cycle today, not even the trump camp seems to show much energy in pushing it

This is a normal post Yes, terms tend to lose their distinction
which would be a real shame in the case of Karen

This is a normal post bit of a storm in a teacup
the kind of conspiracy theorist who believe this nonsense will believe it whether twitter blocks it or not. Can't see "we just happened to find an abandoned harddrive that had an email that said hunter biden wanted to set up a meeting with an energy company exec and his dad" having some big impact on the election. Your average punter probably doesn't even understand what the accusation is. but good on twitter and facebook for making minor efforts to stem the tide of bullshit, it's a start I suppose

This is a normal post yeah but Hillary's emails

(, Thu 15 Oct 2020, 15:46, , Reply)
This is a normal post with that, you could see what the accusation was, that she wasn't to be trusted with sensitive data
with biden it's a lot more indirect, it's basically, hunter biden was up to something wrong, even though we have no proof of that, and biden put pressure on the ukraine to get get rid of a prosecutor that might have found something if his kid was doing something wrong. Even though when this pressure took place the prosecutor in question had done fuck all on the investigation for four years. And Biden had official reasons to be there, so it wasn't like it was some secret plan.
I just can't see this getting nearly the same traction, it's all too convoluted. Sure it'll get his nutty base talking, but it'd just be something else if wasn't this. Dementia or secret communist plans or qanon
