This is a question Not-stalgia

Willenium tugs our sleeve and says: Tell us why the past was a bit shit. You may wish to use witty anecdotes reflecting your own personal experience.

Those were the days/Happy Days!
Errr - no they weren't. We had an outside loo with no light and newspaper to wipe yer arse. And in winter it was an absolute delight to try to melt the frozen bog with pee (after trudging through the snow).
No central heating - just a coal fire in the living room, that was only lit during the day. Layers of blankets & coats on the bed in winter AND ice on the inside of the window.
Cold, hungry and poor sums it up...

Same here, although we did have real bog paper.
I can remember having mittens for xmas and putting them on my feet that night in bed!

You've forgotten the Jack Frost decorations on the inside of the windows.

don't forget the MASSIVE spiders in the outside bog

I've recently renovated our outside lavvy - all whitewash and red-painted floor, with a duckboard in case of leaks - and very evocative it is too.
How satisfying it is to be pooing technically outdoors!

The toilet lid even has a fluffy cover. The cats LOVE that. I have to boot them off it to use the bog.
One of these dark nights, I will surely forget I've left the lid down and will wee on a cat.

I wasn't going to screw the toilet roll to the door in case I couldn't reach it from the throne. Silly me, that was when I was 10. I'm big enough now.

And yup, there are spiders. It wouldn't be fun without them.
