This is a question Irrational Hatred

People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

I don't know
I find the perpetual use of "Sir" or "Mr ShinyShiny" annoying as well, especially if it's from a business that I have a long-standing relationship with e.g. my bank.

Can't they just stick a field in their call-centre GUI called "preferred form of address" and then stick to it?

That way the ones who like "mate", "sir", "Mr So-and-So", "Madam" "Miss" "Ms" or just their name will be happy. So will the people who want their bank to call them "O Glorious One", "Great and Bountiful Source of our Profit" or "Fucknuts".

I used to deal with a proper, old school re-insurance broker who signed letters off thusly:
'Sir, your ever faithful servant.'

I usually tell people who call me "Sir"
that I haven't (yet) been knighted nor am I their high-school teacher (I did go to a private school, yes).
Mostly they're young'uns & they just look at me confuzzledly & then say "That'll be $x you fat, bald, old cunt"
+100 points to whomever sees the Severed Heads ref.
