This is a question Irrational Hatred

People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

I've overlooked the massive one...
I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who has noticed that people no longer have the ability to think for themselves. And i'm convinced that this is caused by a combination of ridiculously stupid OH&S rules, bloody obvious warning signs and ambulance-chasing no-win no-fee lawyers.

For example, on a packet of peanuts "May contain nuts". Or a "Do not stick body parts in sharp whirly things" sign on a sharp whirly thing. It's common sense. Or those fucking annoying "Been injured at work? Sue your boss!" adverts that have created the sort of people who the moment something happens to them that they don't like, they wonder who they can sue about it. Like that woman in the US who sued a store for tripping over a child. Her child. And won!

As cavemen we learnt that fire burnt and hurt us, and it got hard coded in our DNA. So we don't set fire to ourselves (unless we're mentalists or really pissed off about something).

Now they're talking about banning people from listening to iPods while crossing the road. For fucks sake, if you can't pay attention to what is happening around you as you listen to Kanye Fucking West then you deserve to be collected by that large mass of moving metal that you haven't given way to.

I could go on. I could go on for a long time, especially without my wife here to gently squeeze my arm to nudge me out of my rantiness...

A click for you sir
The warning sign thing is perfect proof that if you treat people like idiots, they'll act like idiots. And it's true - no-one can think for themselves any more, and when things inevitably go tits-up for them they simply blame someone else.

Do not iron clothing on the body!
With you 100% there.

*click*

Oh and iPods & crossing the road is just natural selection in action.

It's all down to the lawyers
The signs are there not because nut manufacturers are worried about your health. They're worried you'll sue them if your health is harmed, and they figure that putting "May Contain Nuts" on their nuts (probably quite amusing as a scrotal tattoo, otherwise fucking irritating) is enough to be a workable defence in a court of law.

And the reason they're SO worried about being sued is that the no-win no-fee system allows (even forces) damages to rise much higher than they otherwise would be, to pay the lawyers for all the work they do not only on the handful of cases they win, but all the shitloads of cases they lose or never bother to bring forward because it's clear the fuckwit who's been climbing ladders on freshly-waxed floors only did it because they thought there'd be a buck in it for them if they skidded through that plate glass window.

Exactly. Why can't these fuckers just stick to videoing it and getting their wedge of cash from wankiest home videos? Because it'd be more profitable suing the ladder manufacturer for failing to put a "don't use this ladder on waxed floors" sticker on the bloody thing.

i'm inclined to agree with you
especially after the health and safety talk we were treated to at the start of my college course (i'm a culinary student) which included things such as "don't put your hand in the deep fat fryer to retrieve cooked food, always use a basket" and "don't stick knives in the fly zapper"

darwin
I'm generally of the opinion that if you hurt yourself doing something stupid or obviously a bad idea you deserve the results. We had a discussion at work because a door opened inward but as it was a "fire door" had to open outward. If you can't find the way out of a burning building through a working door regardless of the way it swings, you deserve to bloody burn!

I think the fire door issue...
... is related to getting the door open when you have dozens of panicked people pressing you forward and you need to step back open a pull door. Being able to read the word "Pull" will only add to your anguish in such circumstances.

Can't remember who first said it, but
Take all the warning labels off and let natural selection do the rest...

I really wish I could Like this 1000 times.
