In March I'm heading to that London to see Metallica
I'll be up for a weekend, and I've persuaded Mrs Vipros that she would be happy for us to meet some b3tans. I don't know exactly when I will be around, but which of you reprobates might be available.

it's the last weekend in Feb, first weekend in March.

Morning!
How is everyone today?

Due to some crappy flights home yesterday, I've not slept all night, now I have to try to stay awake until tonight. Should be fun.

Resident Loooooooooooooooon!!!!
I made curry tonight, and it was wonderfully delicious. However, my (American) friends said it was good, but weren't too keen on it. The Aussie that was with us said it was great and had 3 helpings.
I'm coming to the opinion that Americans don't really like Indian food - every time I've been to an Indian restaurant with an American, they've ordered (well, asked me to recommend) the most bland curry available.
Is this normal, or is it a California thing? I know my curry isn't shit as I've converted a few people, but general consensus says it's 'just not an American thing'

A song for a Siamese cat
There's a little black face at my door today
(that's my cat out there)
It's the same old thing as yesterday
(that's my cat out there)

He's stood there before in the pouring rain
meowing for me to let him in again
I'm always hoping that he'll end this game
but it's his destiny just to be a pain...

PC Memory silly noob question
My PC hasn't been upgraded in ages... Well, three years to be exact. Seeing as I'm too much of a skinflint to buy a new system, I thought I'd upgrade the most critical bit and then do the rest later.

So far as I know, it's got a single DIMM with half a gig of 400mhz memory sitting in it. "No problemo!" said I and immediately logged on to Dabs.com to check out how much replacement RAM costs.

However I'm somewhat bewildered by the choices on offer. What does "registered" mean? What happens if I chuck the old DIMM away and put in a 1.5 Gig 800mhz DIMM? Why is there a difference of £111 between a 1.5 Gig DIMM (at £22) and a 4 Gig DIMM (at £133)? Will slotting in a 800mhz DIMM fuck up my PC or will it simply work at whatever lower rated speed my motherboard can handle?

Answers in crayon please.

Another quick question

I'm sure I heard someone on the radio the other day say that a car uses more fuel if driven with the headlights on.

Can this be true? Call me a techno-thickie, but I thought the lights were powered by the battery, which was re-charged constantly as the car moved. I drive west in the morning and east on the way home, so the cars coming towards me tend to be blinded by the sun around this time of year, so, I drive with the lights on full for safety's sake.

I ripped some DVD's at the weekend to my PC in VOB format, and now I'd like to convert them, but can't think of a tool that will do it.

Any help please?

EDIT: I want to convert them to AVI/MPEG, sorry

Due to popular demand, there's a couple of b3ta beard brigade badges in the replies.

If you have a preferred source image or text, let me know and I might knock up a personalised version for you. Yes... I am your bitch.

Birmingham - it's bostin, mate
Out of interest, anyone on b3ta at university in Birmingham?

As I was walking out of a fantabulous night at Gatecrasher I could've sworn I heard someone laugh and say "that's so going in a question of the week". Didn't see who said it though.

Come on out, you're in a safe space...

A bit of 'geek' help needed
we found a couple of PC-CD ROM games bought for my eldest, but which now suit the youngest. She wanted to play them, but they are so old they're Windows 95 compatible.

The PC won't load them (running XP) and I have no intention of runnings Windows 95 for the sake of two kids' games. Plus I wouldn't know how to do that, anyway.

So, the question is, is there anything we can do to make an XP system run a W95 game, or should we forget it, bin them and stop being so tight and buy the poor kid new games?

I got home to be greeted by my lovely Stealth who purred all over me.
I found out my cable TV package shows English Premier League.
I watched Hull City trounce West Brom.
And it's not even 10am yet! Today is going to be a good day

Hey there.
Just wondering if there are any other real ale fanatics out there in b3ta land. Trying to figure out how wonderful/terrible the Great British Beer Festival is.

The new cat has just digraced himself
And I don't mean by crapping in the corner either.

He's just opened up the hamster's cage.....

we'll have to wait until the morning to see if the poor hamster has survived the mauling. We had to shake the cat to get him to drop the little rodent.

The cat is in disgrace - I know it's his nature but...jeez.

PJM had a Partridge moment explaining it all to the kids - in the morning the hamster will either be running around in his wheel or...erm....it'll be....ah.....

Yes. Quite.

Fluffy murdering cat.

And he still looks at us with those adoring eyes.

Git.
