Lunch!
I have a toffee crisp so all is well with the world.

Alt: What are you hoping for this Christmas?

I want a figure of Jeff Bridges as the Dude from Firebox. It comes with a rug.

Ever-so-slight threadjack, sorry Blousie
Cooking advice please. I've got, for once, 8oz of sirloin steak to cook tonight, and I'd like to know what I'm supposed to do with the damn thing. It used to have a face and isn't fish; this is terra incognito.

If it could involve chillies and mushrooms I'd be grateful.

3 mins each side in a fucking hot pan
Rest on a warm plate in the oven for about 5 mins. Meanwhile, chop the mushrooms, add butter, salt, pepper and a tiny touch of Worcester sauce and leave them for 15 mins over a low heat.

Boil sweet potato until soft. Mash with butter and chopped chilli.

NOM

That does sound fucking yum
Cheers mate. Am slightly tempted to spoil myself by putting it into a bastard hot curry, as we also have potato for once.

CURRY IS NEVER A WASTE
I do get what you mean, but I never underestimate just how much I fucking love a good curry. It's one of the few things I make really well so would probably be the tastiest possible outcome.

Do anything else than panfry it in a neutral oil
with subtle seasoning and I'll queerbash you.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:11, Reply)
Oil the steak, and put salt and pepper over it
Fucking hot pan, minute or so either side, then an extra 2 minutes each side.

Take out to rest, but cover it so it keeps heat in. Add onions, mushrooms, a little Lea & Perrins and a glug of red wine into the pan. Let the wine reduce a little, before adding a knob of butter into the sauce. Once the butter has melted into the sauce, pour over the steak, before enjoying with whatever accompaniment you've chosen for it.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:15, Reply)
I like to put a bit of butter on the steak after cooking
so it melts into it as it is resting

Alright fella, how are we?
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:20, Reply)
That story reads like a complete falsehood
but looking at the perpetrators I don't doubt they can't get anyone outside of the family to shag them.

Very well thanks mate. How are you keeping?
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:23, Reply)
Reported in several newspapers, I see no reason for it to be false
The only reason I linked The Sun version is because it has the pictures of them two, and that cracks me up.

Not too bad, wasn't well yesterday, still don't feel 100%, but can't win em all! How have you managed to get your hands on steak then, would have thought the missus wouldn't allow that?
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:25, Reply)
Hahaha should've known you'd pick up on that
Believe it or not, she spotted it in the reduced section last time we were in Asda and suggested I pick it up!

Sorry to hear you weren't well, what was wrong?

Ahh, bloody hell!
Just a bit of vomiting, upset stomach really. I'm still not great, but feeling shedloads better than yesterday, just annoyed that I'm being accused of being off with a hangover.

I simply pointed out that I come into work at least once a week with a hangover, so why would I take a day off with one?

Alt: (in the light of events in my life) *draws breath*
A quick uneventful delivery; a normal, healthy baby; sufficient sleep; the opportunity to have a few drinks, without being ruined by lack of sleep; a new house that fits all my criteria; someone to buy my house; a stress-free move; fewer books/junk in my life; a new car; blowjob(s); being able to give up working for a living.

Failing all that, some records would be nice.

Come December there will be a new little tangle depriving me of my precious, precious sleep.

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:43, Reply)
I had Covent Garden Soup Company with wholmeal rolls.
it was shit. But at least I am making an effort to improve my diet.

Alt: I've been shanghaied into having tickets to see 'Matilda' with the other half. It's not even that I really object to seeing it, I think Tim Minchin is wonderful so I'm sure it's very good, but it's not what I would have chosen for a Christmas present.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:15, Reply)
It's for kids
It's marginally better than other kids productions I have had to endure, but it is a musical and all musicals are shite. Soz.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:17, Reply)
I know, I know.
I suppose it's a small sacrifice for only letting her choose two films we've seen together in over 6 years, so...

she chose Pride & Prejudice and Valentine's Day, for fucks sake.

Being a Tim Minchin fan will help
The songs cracked me up. Retains the spirit of the book which was a favourite when I was a kid.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:31, Reply)
That's pretty much all I hoped for.
I know it's not my ideal choice of entertainment, but I assumed it would be passable and not hateful given what it's based on and who is behind it.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:37, Reply)
Given my (unsurprising) predisposition towards musical theatre
you're not going to love it as much as I did. But the missus probably will, and you won't hate it, and you'll have boyfriend points for taking her. And what do boyfriend points make?

Did you see South Park the other week?
The whole premise was that musicals are dreamt up by men to get blowjobs, and men only take their partners to see them to get blowjobs.

I didn't mean to piss on your chips

but it is for kids and it is a musical
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:32, Reply)
Well I don't hate all musicals
but I do hate being surrounded by kids, so this could be problematic.

And actually i can't think of a musical that I don't hate now I've said that either, bugger.

Oliver!
I liked Oliver!, so there's that.

And Buddy, I liked that, but as that's just Buddy Holly songs, it would have been pretty hard to not to like that, unless you don't like Buddy Holly, and then, really, you'd only have yourself to blame for seeing it in the first place.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:38, Reply)
I get a slating every time I admit this, but I liked Moulin Rouge
Also, Oliver!, Les Miserables, Pirates Of Penzance, etc
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:40, Reply)
Moulin Rouge was fucking shit
I have no problem with the idea, just the execution. Awful.

Someone really should have mentioned Chicago by now. Stage, not screen, although that was perfectly entertaining.

OK, NOW I'm going to the shops
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
Chicago wasn't bad, not great though.

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
there is nothing wrong with this

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
I love Buddy Holly
But that show is dire.
And Lionel Bart is an awful composer. On the plus side, Matilda is probably better than them.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
I think I was about 15 when I saw it,
And it seemed great to me at the time. That's no guarantee that I woudln't find it shit if I saw it again now, I accept.

The compromise this year is having to go up to Blackpool to visit relatives for a couple of days after Boxing Day. Blackpool in the winter is quite peaceful so it hasn't worked out too bad for me.

A new liver would come in handy.

With grandparents living over 100 miles away we have chosen to always stay at home for Christmas
Everyone knows where we live and if they want to come it is fine

I think I've only spent christmas away from family twice in my life.

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:49, Reply)
I've driven to Featherstone a few times on Christmas morning.
We now just go on Boxing Day instead
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:52, Reply)
In the last couple of years before I left home my parents used to go away and leave me and my sister at home
Man, were we popular with all our friends on Christmas day?
At precisely the point in the day when everyone had had enough of their families, one by one they would come strolling in.

Capital! I'll bring the After Eights.

If indeed you do go to Blackpool
you should burn it to the ground, there's a good lad
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:48, Reply)
My sister and brother-in-law run a guesthouse there so...
..yeah sure, why not? I'm amazed that so many hotels make a living just from being in the vicinity of some tall metal and widespread depression.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:51, Reply)
Please don't burn Blackpool to the ground until I have been to see the 'Comedy Carpet'.
After that, have at it as you wish.

Did you enjoy the gig Bill?

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:50, Reply)
It was fucking brilliant
We got to right near the front and everyone around us was friendly and having a laugh. It was a knackering weekend but very much worth it.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:54, Reply)
I forgot to ask any b3tans where they were meeting up..
..so short of holding up a big sign of a magenta cock there wasn't much I could do to get my first meeting with the internet. As it turned out we just got there in time for the doors opening anyway.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:56, Reply)
No worries, we were supposed to be meeting Monty and Al beforehand but they both bailed, the great woofters.
So we ended up going straight to the Roundhouse rather than for a drink before the gig.

I thought they sounded fucking excellent, but was stood near the back with clendrix. I occasionally spotted Eldritch's baldy pate, though.

You should dull this pain with hard drugs.
