What are you up to this weekend?
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:04, 145 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
STUDYING madly tomorrow.
then going to have a jam on sunday with a few friends. I got busted singing to myself when I thought I was home alone, and now I'm under pain of death to turn up to this jam session.

The friends are actually housemates of my friend from swingdance. I've been hiding at his house all week cos I didn't want to be in my flat. The music they do is acoustic stuff, and I love it, but my stuff it's more folksy. or Jazz.

blues-y jazz. Think uhhh, ella fitzgerald, michael buble, that kinda stuff.
I did classical and jazz vocal lessons for about 5 years. Loved it. miss it a lot actually.

Many years ago
Someone I worked with told my manager that one day she expected to see me indiscriminately firing from a bell tower with a semi-automatic rifle. I found this upsetting at the time, but quite amusing now.

I mean, to say something like I must have been projecting myself in a certain way, right? So I quit that job, had a complete career change and never looked back. And so far I've been rifle-free my whole life.

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:27, Reply)
I'm all ears! :)

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:31, Reply)
The Devil Rides Out is good
It's kind of like an episode of The Avengers in it's 1960s capmness, but still scary if you're on your own in a dark house.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:32, Reply)
Noted, thanks
Sounds like it could be entertaining.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:38, Reply)
I'm too much of a wuss to watch horror films on my own, what are you watching?

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:28, Reply)
It's the only opportunity I get
The other half doesn't like horrors, unless they have vamps or zoms... he's a picky so and so! :)

I'll probably end up watching Creep, Insidious, Wrong Turn, Frigth Night, Last House and then look on Netflix for something shockingly awful but entertaining...
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:34, Reply)
Firstly, Insidious is pretty crap
And secondly - icky so and so! :) ansy
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:35, Reply)
Aww don't say that
I thought it looked alright from the trailer! Gah!
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:39, Reply)
It's just another 'Boo!' horror film, sadly.
Give me proper horrors anyday (The Omen), or at least decent 'Boo' films.(Candyman)
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:40, Reply)
I thought The Devil Inside looked good
but it got absolutely slated on IMDb.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:42, Reply)
I'm not a fan of 'found footage' films, so that one doesn't tempt me

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:43, Reply)
Yeah that did look pretty good from the trailer!
Most of the time I don't trust IMDb opinions on films, mainly because I end up loving the films that everyone else slates! Haha
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:48, Reply)
Aww
I was always very partial to Hellraiser and also Wishmaster. Oooh I might watch An American Werewolf in London now that I think of it.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:44, Reply)
Hellraiser is an excellent film, and I've never seen Wishmaster.

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:44, Reply)
Oh you should
It's truly awful, but also brilliant! I think someone gets chopped in half with piano wire at one point - it's not a party 'til that happens! :)
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:46, Reply)
Sweet!
Reminds me of the bit in Omen 2 where the guy is cut in half with a lift cable, haha
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:48, Reply)
Haha
It still can't beat The Omen where the guy gets his head chopped off with the sheet of glass - that gave me nightmares as a kid!
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:49, Reply)
The flips that head does is superb
And the scene in the graveyard still freaks the shit out of me.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:50, Reply)
It is a brilliant horror film
As is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:53, Reply)
The bit where Leatherface just cracks the guy on the head with the hammer makes me laugh every time
*bonk*
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:55, Reply)
It's when he hangs her up on a meat hook that it's really gross, and she's struggling and try ing to pull herself off.

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:55, Reply)
That bit does make me cringe.

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:57, Reply)
I agree
I think that's more freaky because it looks more real. The head scene is so blatently a papier-mache noggin' it makes it more comical.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:54, Reply)

Wheeee!
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:57, Reply)
I like it when the statue comes to life and just pushes the mace through the guys head.
Hellraiser 3 is better than the first one in terms of cheesieness.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:49, Reply)
Those statue guys are bad-ass!

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:51, Reply)
I downloaded all 4 and might well watch them this weekend since the mrs is away.
Oh, you know what, I can't believe I've only just thought of this, while your hubby and my wife are away we should totally hook up.

it's almost like if we dont' do it we're awful bastards.

Frankly, they would expect nothing less.
To be fair we should probably invite Chickenlady too.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:56, Reply)
Oooh good call!

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:59, Reply)
I'm a massive wuss. I can't watch anything scary without wigging out about it.
Especially not alone.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:38, Reply)
Haha
It's only a problem when I try to sleep, but my dreams are usually fucked up without horror-based inspiration so I'm cool with it! :)
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:40, Reply)
You should go and see the Abraham Lincoln movie then.
I went to see it a couple of weeks ago when it came out. I was so frightened by it that I was hugging my knees to my chest and crouching on my seat so I could run away at any moment. And I screamed out loud more than once.

but then, like I said, I am a big wuss with scary movies.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:42, Reply)
Haha no worries
I would like to see the film, but I need to read the book first, I've got it on Kindle - just waiting to finish Grisham-trash first! :)
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:45, Reply)
I recently picked up a similar book with Queen Victoria hunting demons.
Haven't had a chace to read it yet though.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:48, Reply)
Really? What was it called?
Have you read Pride and Predjudice and Zombies?
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:50, Reply)
That's not bad actually
It's a bit silly, but good train-fodder! I think it's the same guy that wrote the Abraham Lincoln book isn't it?
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:53, Reply)
Yeah, I was a bit dissapointed by the Abe Lincoln book, it was alright, but it wasn't as good as i'd hoped

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:55, Reply)
Borf :(
That's a shame, I'll give it a whirl at some point - see what I think!
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:57, Reply)
Did you read the 3rd book in the Strain trilogy?
I was really dissapointed by it.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 16:59, Reply)
It's my holiday read
I'm going to read all three back to back, but I am already prepared to be annoyed. I think I'll back it up by reading the shitty Scott Mariani trilogy - at least it's not trying to be anything but a vamp/action romp.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 17:03, Reply)
I have all three of those books, they're great fun to read.
You should try Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters, or Jayne Slayer.
(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 17:01, Reply)
'Android Karenina' made me lol.

(, Fri 17 Aug 2012, 17:02, Reply)

At the moment I'm monged out on codeine, watching 80s music videos on VH1.
When the codeine wears off, I'll go back to crying and rocking back and forth in agony.
Also, tomorrow is our wedding anniversary, and we're thinking of going to a 'mind body and spirit' fair in Weston to point and laugh.

Oh, and Fajita night at some point.
