Why do people make such a fuss about the Grand National?
It's not even like you're watching people race that you can talk to afterwards and admire, they're animals bred to make fat Irishmen and members of the gentry lots of money. Why does it make the news?

It's been mentioned on every news bulletin I've heard over the last few days
and Channel 4 keep showing their adverts for horse racing to make it look like an extreme sport.

oh right,
well, i just looked it up and i think a reason it might be popular is because it is the most valuable jump race in Europe, with a prize fund of £975,000 in 2013, also i just found out that it has been going since 1839 so, as sporting traditions go, that has to be one of your older sporting traditions.
i hope this answers some of your questions, you may find in life that people are interested in things that you aren't, it is best to not get upset about these things i find xx
