why not just buy a bike?

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 14:53, 2 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
I have several bikes that I have just bought.
I enjoy building up old frames in to custom bikes with modern hardware. An old steel tubed frame is surprisingly light and fun to ride. THey don't make 'em like they used to etc.

"fun to ride"? surely a bike is very much like another bike
and by very much i mean exactly

You couldn't be more wrong.

two wheels, metal frame, seat...not that much difference really is there?

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 14:59, Reply)
4 wheels, engine, seats.
All cars are the same to drive then?
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:00, Reply)
yeah but there are loads of bits that make up a car, bikes are simple

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:01, Reply)
Theres lots of bits that make up a bike too and they can all make a difference
Of the top of my head, frame, Bottom Bracket, Cranks, Gearing, Brakes, Pedal type, Crank Length, Wheel size, tyre size, tyre treads and many more

I've ridden a lot of bikes and each part makes a difference to the overall ride.

Look obvious example
My commuting bike has 2 wheels a metal frame and a seat. So does Sportos bike. Ask him if you think they ride the same.
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:09, Reply)
Yeah
Yours doesn't even have stabilisers!
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:13, Reply)
yeah but it's not like a 4 pot super mini compared to a V8 pickup truck is it?

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:15, Reply)
Sort of
If sporto rode my bike the way he rides his it would break in seconds, but if I rode his the way I ride mine I would have a heart attack and die trying to get it up to 40mph.
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:20, Reply)
And this isn't your preferred suicide method?

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:21, Reply)
No.
I'm going with the Bungee rope, superglue, cheese wire, building method.
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:22, Reply)
are you saying sporto is some sort of fat bike retard?

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:23, Reply)

bike
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:24, Reply)
No
I am saying that despite having two wheels, a metal frame and wheels our bikes are very different. And that your assumption that all bikes are the same is rubbish and you are not only bent but a spastic.
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:25, Reply)
yeah wel, I get on a bike and peddle and it goes forward, end of

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:27, Reply)
I expect it more like
You get on a bike, pedal, wobble about a bit, fall off, repeat
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:34, Reply)
nah, your mama's way to fat to fall off

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:35, Reply)
Well, apart from a frame, PJ's new bike doesn't have any of those things.

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:00, Reply)
now I understand

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:02, Reply)

TOP TIPS: don't cycle on the inside lorries and buses on corners because you'll get squashed to death and no one will care because you were cycling like a prick!
