Morning technical b3tans
I have an AAC (.m4a) file here I need to burn to CD.

I don't want to install iTunes on my computer. What's the easiest way of burning it, without downloading one of these dodgy 'm4a to wav EZ converter' things that are bound to be riddled with spyware?

You need
an audio conversion or editing program. Which means, unless you already own one (I use BIAS Peak LE), you'll have to download a dodgy, spyware-riddled piece of software from the internet.

Or give it to a mate who has iTunes installed.

I'm on a PC so can't use Peak
I've almost certainly got software that'll do it at home, but it needs to be done today really.

Actually, will Audacity open AACs? *goes off to check*

Edit: Audacity won't do it. Rubbish.

I might have to install iTunes on a sacrificial (i.e. not my main) computer then!

That's
the exact reason I keep a clean copy of Windows running under VMWare.

Install a shit/spyware riddled piece of software, use, then roll back the VM.

this won't be all that helpful
but it is possibly to find convertors that aren't riddled with spyware or shit.

download.com is a good place to start looking

I'd recommend CDeX
I think t can do AAC to WAV. Seems to do everything else under the sun.

cdexos.sourceforge.net/

Nah, CDex can't do it
That's my weapon of choice for ripping CDs to mp3, it has an AAC encoder so you can rip to AAC, but strangely not the other way round.

I've downloaded iTunes onto a spare machine I've got here, at least then it's not gonna fuck up my computer, and I can always reformat/set fire to/exorcise the other one afterwards.

It can't?
Fair enough. Piece of knowledge squirrelled away.

I've just remembers my second method - a piece of software called Polderbits. You have to play the track and it records whatever is coming out of your sound card to a file. Rather nifty piece of kit.
