Deputy HeadMy Grandma once came to see me receive a prize at school. She had worked at the school as a dinner lady about 30 years before and recognised some of the staff. On seeing an unfamiliar face, she turned to me and said quite loudly in a packed hall, "He int a teacher here is he?"
"Who Mr. Hermit?" I replied, "yes he is Deputy Head."
She said, with an air of incredulity, "What, a BLACKY?"
"You can't say that grandma," says I, trying to placate the turned and shocked faces.
She, clearly put out responded, "What? I could've said coon."
