This is a question Spoilt Brats

Mr Newton sighs, "ever known anyone so spoilt you would love to strangle? I lived with a Paris Hilton-a-like who complained about everything, stomped her feet and whinged till she got her way. There was a happy ending though: she had to drop out of uni due to becoming pregnant after a one night stand..."

Who's the spoiltest person you've met? Has karma come to bite them yet? Or did you in fact end up strangling them? Uncle B3ta (and the serious crimes squad) wants to know.

oooh-errrr, sorry!
Long time lurker, first time poster, please be gentle!

I am making my apologies in advance for whoever has the misfotune of crossing my daughter in the future! It took me a very long time to get preggers on her and now she is here and 3 months old, and she is spoilt rotten. Not by myself or Mr Stella, but by papa Stella.

That's right, my daddy dearest, is spoiling my baby girl rotten. Already she won't go to sleep unless she's being walked around the living room. She's 12 weeks old and I had a bank statement for her, that my dad has been doing for her. £316!!!! My sister is also not helping matters much, she already has a good sized wardrobe, full of brand name clothes. Roxy Baby mostly, and a pair of baby Uggs. BABY UGGS!! Even I don't have Uggs!

I've been reading your stories and my blood is running colder and colder, I need to nip this in the bud now, before darling Baby Stella ends up like the horrid spoilt brats I've just spent the last half hour reading about.

AW GAWD!

Don't panic
A 3 month old baby has no idea what is happening, so you have plenty of time to establish and enforce your own rules and values. Your father and sister might want to spoil the kid, but you are the one that is in attendance most of the time, so your way will prevail. You have at very least another 6 months before the child can even talk, and years in which to establish the ideas of consequences, responsibility, and the golden rule. This is a good time for you to think about your own behavior - if you do things that you don't want your child to learn, start your own improvements now. Good luck!

Congratulations.
You have just found out what the job of a grandparent really is. After raising you until you can stand on your own (with the occasional helping hand from them of course) parents go into default mode until YOU have kids and they become grandparents.

The job of grandparents (and for that matter uncles and aunties) is to spoil your child rotten and then hand them back to you for you to deal with.

Don't worry though, you've got it all to look forward to when baby Stella grows up and has kids herself.

Thanks....
Never thought of it that way!
if my dad and my sister want to spoil her she'll just have to learn it's only them that'll be doing it!!!
I'm sure she'll get a little spoiling from me too as she's so cute though!

Get the sleep pattern sorted
or you're in for trouble.

She needs to be put to bed with no fuss for her regular naps. This will keep her calm.

By some books
Teaching very young children sign language (Makatan) before they can speak is useful in stopping temper tantrums. 1-2-3 Magic is useful, the rule being never to go back on your warnings/decisions. But to be honest none of this kicks in until 2/3 yrs old. Meantime enjoy it while you can. You've really only got lack of sleep, weaning, health tests, child care to worry about now. Which is a doddle compared to what happens later.

Why do people always say
"Long time lurker"? It's as if it's an excuse for a shit post (not that this applies here)

Because it's scary
reading all the cool posts for ages and then submitting something yourself. I'm worried about getting it wrong or something, so if I put that then hopefully people will go a bit easier if it IS a crap post, and not say anything nasty.

THIS POST IS WRONG
You have missed several required elements. Refer to B3ta submission rules 34C through 94B and correct your fumbling, clumsy attempt at a post and try harder.

Only kidding.

But please - and this applies to girls - dont buy Uggs - they're ridiculously expensive for what is basically a pair of large slippers and they are lower on the shoe chain than Crocs. If you dont have long skinny legs, they add at least 40 pounds to the lower half of your body.

.
I noticed yesterday that people in Uggs walk funny. they kind of shuffle along. I noticed it when I was playing "geek with a chinese girl".

Uggs
are fucking horrible. Why the hell do people think they look good?

Phew.....
my heart sank when I first read this! I thouht you were being mean!
I agree on the Uggs, she is only 12lbs so maybe she shouldn't wear them, imagine how she'd look if they added 40lbs to her lower half!

Don't panic
you can't 'spoil' a baby. Other than the sleeping thing, I'd get that sorted before it becomes a major issue. They have to get used to falling asleep by themselves.

Let her grandad and aunt be the spoilers, its their job! My brother spoils my kids but various threats ensured that he keeps it to birthdays and Christmas. As her parent, you're in the position to lay down the law with them.

Baby Uggs though? Sorry, just wrong. They're too loose on the feet, she'd only kick them off.
