Oh and my mum who died of smoking related lung cancer from her non addiction to nicotine

So, compulsion is a vile disease if it affects someone you know
but pathetic greed if it's not? Or if you don't have the same weakness?

I'm sorry for your losses. I've lost relatives and friends to cancer and alcoholism but I tend to look at all addictions as being horrific and just because I don't have a destructive problem with food/alcohol/cigarettes/drugs doesn't mean other's can't.

Harder to diet isn't than combat an illness ,

And alcoholism isn't just a compulsion you flid

Starts off as one
takes a very long time to become an alcoholic, biologically, but the compulsion is what gets people into it.

The alcoholics I've known have taken a long route to being addicted. Those I know who have recovered have completely kicked it. I quit smoking. I don't smoke at all. Nothing. I know if I had a puff I'd be back on it. I can't.

But I know people who are obese. They can't stop eating food. Some are dying to lose weight but they can't stop themselves, and the behaviour I see in them is the same as alcoholics or drug addicts.

You're not the first person to say that
but by saying no offence you sugar-coated it beautifully and protected my feelings.
