That's the same house where some yoots snuck into the back garden and cut through the bike lock of my housemates bike, crucially not realizing they should've maybe carried it a bit before riding it to their flat because it had snowed.

Brown/blue isn't exactly logical, but at least most people are familiar with it.
Red/black is still pretty prevalent, though, and seems like a deliberate effort to discourage the likes of me (which it probably is, and with good reason, I suppose).
My first house seemed to have been wired up with exclusively black wires (not that that stopped me from having a go).
I'd like to see blue (live), black (neutral) and brown (earth), but, thinking about it, some sort of combination of stripes, bands and solid colours might be more accommodating of the colour blind.

Most of our new installs are going in 4 or 5 core stuff to run less cable.
It makes no sense to run feeds the same colour as switch lines, but they're both technically live. So what colour do you want? Every spark I know seems happy with the current colours.

I've generally replaced old, ugly, three lamp fittings with newer, prettier three lamp fittings,
or an old rose/pendant with a new one.
I did swap out a strip light for three led spots, but that was in the extension, where the wiring is newer (blue/brown wiring, rather than the red/black of the rest of the house). I did manage to drill through the wiring, that time, though, like the amateur you know me to be.
Ta for the tip, though - something to bear in mind.

Seriously, though, switching the colour schemes has resulted it houses having wiring using both schemes, which just strikes me as dangerous.

Exactly what I said.
We had a scout take a belt off a light fitting in a bathroom. Turned out, after a long hunt, that the earth from the board to the first light fitting wasn't in, and the switch line from that light had been drilled through, so every time the student turned his lights on, every earth on the rest of that lighting circuit became live. The board didn't click out as there was no return earth on the old lighting circuit from anywhere else. Someone could have died. IT had drilled straight through the plastic conduit.

No, I will listen politely and add your name to my referral list and then once your name comes to the top of the list in around 4 or 5 weeks I will dictate a referral to the specialist.
And then once that get's to the top of my secretaty's list in another 4 or 5 weeks she'll type the letter and send it to the booking department who will wait a few more weeks and then send you out an appointment letter which will get to you the day after your appointment and then they'll send another letter saying that you've missed your appointment and you should go back and see your GP and ask to be referred again.

Causing a complete hysterical breakdown when she realised the terrapin "Queeny the cunt" was ok.
