Imagine the sweeping landscapes and beautiful scenery of New Zealand
Now imagine that same thing but coated in that qunitessential disappointing British ineptitude and dullness that we seem to apply to everything. Add a dash of the "after the end" bleakness that's cultivated in seaside resorts like Blackpool, flavoured with the rotting remnants of a time long past, with the denizens, hollowed and lost, shuffling through an existence that no longer wants or needs them. That is Wales*.

Most of the ones from my youth.
Mostly either remote camping holidays in the UK or the south of France. My parents typically avoided the ones with anything remotely interesting for children to do as they deemed them 'tacky'. Holidays were their time to sit and do very little while drinking wine.
I was encouraged to invite friends but it always seemed a bit rum to invite someone to something you don't want to do yourself.
Ironically those holidays sound grand now, who wants to holiday in a glorified play area?

"Remote camping"
Made me think of setting up a webcam in a tent and watching it from the comfort of your own home.
I'd much prefer to do that than set foot in an actual tent.

Yeah, probably. I got to about 14-15 and was allowed to stay at home.
Now those times were great, like a little holiday of my own really.

Some of the most fun family holidays I can remember were fishing trips to remote Scottish islands where it pissed it down every day. If you can't go outside because it is raining then clearly you are some sort of terrible poof.

Yez, but those are trips specifically planned for the purpose of fishing and to a location designed for the pursuit of fishing.
If you go somewhere that is not designed for the pursuit of fishing, like the inner swathes of Brittany, and it rains, everything is closed and there is nowt to do.

Limassol in Cyprus, was a shithole. Proper ghetto.
The most opulent thing there was a church in the middle of all the squalor.
Blackpool always fills me with dread, too.

When i was a kid we went on family holidays to France on two occasions,
staying in a Gite in Brittany. It mostly either sitting in a hot old house with no facilities and loads of flies, or driving around in a hot car looking at old churches. On one occasion the nearest town was twinned with Sunderland. We went there one day. Now we know why it was twinned with Sunderland i guess. The highlight was a local child who kept offering us handfuls of gravel and dropping dust on a cat's head.

I put a dollop in the sandwich then use a slice of cheese to press it out, akin to the 'pea method' of applying thermal paste when installing an aftermarket CPU fan.
And anybody who disagrees is objectively wrong and should be gassed
