Oh god...The Mrs and I did an open mic night years back. You strictly had ten minutes for your set and then off. The act before us was about to come on and nearly everyone got up to leave. "What the flying fuck?" we thought as the audience of more than a hundred dwindled down to us and three guys sat round another table. The dude steps up to the mic, guitar under his arm, covered in CND and trade union stickers.
"Tonight, I am going to try to sing four songs by the socialist icon Billy Bragg in ten minutes."
Ten minutes of speeded-up misery.
The poor old Mrs had to play Smelly Cat to get them back into the room.
