no, for a news companyif the story escalates they reserve the right to report it fully. Like if the person changed their mind and went public themselves.
Unless there's something more I'm not seeing how this is evil or blackmailing, especially compared to the more direct "we're printing this story so you might as well give us everything" tactic that you hear about from all the other papers/channels
