# When I was about eleven, at school..
..a bunch of girls brought in a pair of L-shape divining rods made out of coathangers. They would hold the rods one in each hand with the long ends pointing away from them and ask questions, if the rods would cross the answer was yes and if they repelled then the answer was no. Although most were sceptical, this started off a bit of a craze with many of us butchering wire coathangers to make our own sets.

Myself and a friend did a few experiments, such as finding a single book in the school library. One of us would select a book at random whilst the other was out side and the other would find it using the rods as if you were finding water. Strangely enough, it bloody worked. This led on to more experiments.

People were also talking about ouija boards, their various different layouts and methods of conducting such 'seances'. My friend and I had decided to try one, and one day after school were in his bedroom with the curtains closed, a crude hand written board and a small glass. We did not know if you had to say a word to start it off so we decided to ask the rods. Holding the rods I jokingly asked, 'Is the word Death?'.

The rods crossed and became fixed in a cross by some freaky magnetic power. I shat it.

I had trouble sleeping for months afterwards...
