I've had both Cable and Sky.Freeview is a good option if you just want lots of BBC and ITV channels, but at least you don't have to fork out once a month. Telewest was a bit limited, although they have the best broadband going with BlueYonder. But we have Sky coz we're movie nuts and also like Sci-Fi and the Discovery Channels - although most of the Discovery channels are about Hitler. lol
