If they wanted to call it 'ringu', as ringu, they'd use hiragana instead.

Ring-oo
The UK release was simply called "Ring" - and it doesn't refer to the telephone ringing, it refers to the fact that the curse is circular. My understanding is that "Ringu" is simply the Japanese pronounciation of "Ring".
