When ever anyone is seen jumping off a building, they just end up as a thing on the pavement with very little visible damage.

it's very dependent on how far and weight/size all that tat

Yes TV does lie
they do so so as to not disturb people with horrific gore. The amount of blood from such a fall is gorey enough but in many movies the body is hardly damaged at all which is stupid.
