I thought it was you at first.
Then I realised it was the Aussie. Then I realised why he can't get laid. It's all coming together ;)

haha
I can grow a huge beard in a week and it drives my wife mental if I don't at least run the clippers over my face every day or two.
Balding is an option in my case. Recently I've been sporting hair and a beard as can be attested to by Captain Wow.

a beard in the army?
what army was that? Army of the lazy unwashed? You'd have been up on charges if you were not shaved by 6am in a real army. (Unless you were in the pioneers, don't tell me you were with those lunatic bastards?)

How does one achieve a full beard without having a half beard?

I dont know
but i do know Queen Elizabeth first taxed beards (not taches tho) which isn't a bad idea. History doesnt record if this applied to men only or if women included

A soldier is a gentleman and
represents the monarch and country at all times. Deportment and appearance are of paramount importance.
Facial hair is considered unruly and not shaving is slovenly. The ranks are required to shave daily in all circumstances. Moustaches are not to be huge bushy things (and on days gone by if the moustache was to be a handlebar it was officers only and must be waxed at all times ).
It's just about appearance generally but more importantly is another form of control and discipline.

Fair enough.
Seems a little silly to me, what with everything else you've got to worry about during active service, but what do I know?

I think things
have slackened off a bit since my day. I've seen many a serviceman in news reports that looks as though he's not shaven for a few days. We had to get permission to miss one day of shaving and it usually needed to be a medical reason or the active duty prevented shaving easily.

Do they allow them in Afghanistan?
A man ain't a man there without a beard, you are considered a woman without one...you'd have thought they would let them grow them to 'fit in'

Ahh, you told me porkies
and said the army. I was pretty sure you did not mean the UK but I'm not aware of many army regiments allowing beards ( pioneers, or modern day 'scouts' are allowed and of course special ops but not many others ).
Navy of course is a different thing altogether although in the UK facial hair is only allowed with rank unless you are a submariner.
I was S Sgt RA ( Bty 12 Minden ) and was not even allowed a moustache until making sergeant.
I have no idea what a French beard is. Does it run away from your face at the first sign of shooting?

I assume the Navy can have beards
as either a) water was short for shaving or b) something to hold onto when pleasuring another sailor. Those navy traditions eh

a french beard is a beard
that goes around your mouth and connects to a moustache. no hair on the chicks..
